Governor Pritzker recently signed Senate Bill 1569, Public Act 101-0643. All 30 hours of classroom instruction may be provided through remote learning as of June 18.
Please be advised of the following in the "Driver Ed - Student Coursework Completion" system in IWAS for the 2019-20 school year: In order to calculate FY 2021 Driver Education payments accurately for reimbursement, it is critical for districts to ensure that the information for all students who completed classroom and/or behind-the-wheel (i.e., lab) instruction between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020, has been submitted via the "Driver Ed - Student Coursework Completion" system in IWAS by Friday, September 18, 2020. COVID-19 guidance:
- Schools may enter incompletes as "fails" in the IWAS system for students who were enrolled for behind-the-wheel training but were not able to begin or finish instruction by June 30, 2020, due to the mandated suspension of in-person instruction after March 16, 2020. This will ensure that schools receive appropriate reimbursement. A lab completion date also should be entered as the date the student last drove. This does not mean the student failed instruction as the date is being used for reimbursement purposes in this system only. Once students are able to complete behind-the-wheel instruction, they should be enrolled in a 2020-21 lab-only class with their completion pass/fail status.
- If you have submitted a lab "fail" for a student and he/she was able to complete their behind-thewheel instruction by June 30, 2020, please email me with the student's name and lab completion date so that lab status can be corrected and the student can obtain their license
If you will NOT be in session during the summer, please make sure that all 2019-20 (i.e. July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020) student completions have been submitted. Submission of all completion information to ISBE before the summer break will eliminate problems at the driving facilities for students who have summer birthdays. Parents become concerned when schools are on a limited summer schedule, and they encounter difficulty when trying to contact an instructor or administrator regarding the status of completion information.
Click on "Classes" in the "Driver Ed - Student Coursework Completion" system to verify that your student information has been submitted for the 2019-20 school year. Click on "View Students" for each class on your "List of Classes" screen to make sure that the completion information (pass or fail) shows as "Submitted" or "Approved" under the "Status" column. It is very important to submit completion information for all students who have completed classroom and/or lab but still show an "Enrolled" status and to fix all records showing an "In Error" status. Records left as "Enrolled" or "In Error" will not be counted in the reimbursement calculation.
FY 2021 has been opened in the "Driver Ed - Student Coursework Completion" system in IWAS so you can prepare for your classes in the 2020-21 school year. Classes that will be completed after July 1, 2020, may be created.
Please ensure that the aforementioned student information has been transmitted before Friday, September 18, 2020. The file will be closed after the FY 2021 quarterly payments are calculated and cannot be reopened to recalculate payments.
